SELF DEFENSE

- Training -

In ancient China kung fu was practised by imperial bodyguards and the armed forces as a military combat system, and also among religious monks and civilians as a form of personal self-defence.

In this role it’s as relevant today as it was in the past. Kung fu is still a practical method of close combat and is suitable for use by the modern military, law enforcement agencies and the general public.

Traditional kung fu is an excellent method of self defence, providing the student has a solid foundation to work from. The power developed during the training enables a much smaller person to effectively defend themselves against a much larger assailant. The system Sifu Wan teaches provides a step by step method of training dynamic power, reflex response and agile footwork, combined with an array of offensive and defensive techniques to handle any situation. Offensive techniques are often aimed at soft targets and nerve points for maximum effect.

The emphasis on every technique developed in Sifu’s Wan’s system is focused on its eventual application in a self-defence situation.

Additionally, the mental focus is always on training for self-defence. However, Sifu Wan does not condone fighting in any situation other than unavoidable self-defence. All attempts should be made to avoid combat at all costs, before using any self-defence skills the student has developed.
